Let’s Alter a Clock!
First pick up an inexpensive clock - make sure you can open it up by unscrewing or pulling apart the cover... and like I said cheap is good!
Before you start taking it apart, make sure it works and that the noise won’t drive you nuts... some of them are just too noisy, like the first one I made that sits on the wall with no battery in it!
• Carefully take the cover off and then pull the hands off of the middle post... be careful because they are usually fairly bendable. Keep a note of which one goes where... I have found that the shorter hand has been the first one on with the long one on top and then the minute hand last.
• Make a small mark on the side of the clock for each of the numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9.
• Next cut out your paper – I used the cover to measure how big of a circle to do but you may have to play around with this a little. Find the center of your circle and make a hole for the post of the clock to go through – I used my circle cutter.
• Then play with what you want to put on it – make sure to keep it as flat as you can. I used some chipboard numbers after I figured out that the hands could pass easily over them, and some flat flowers.
• After I’d finished and was assembling the clock I realized that... black and red hands just didn’t work with the baby theme so I got out some paint and painted them all. I let them be a little roughly done to give it a bit of a vintage look.
• Now reassemble your hands and make sure it works and keeps time okay by letting it run for awhile.
• Then pop on the front cover and voila... you have a great clock for a small price and totally unique!
